The step-by-step process

Asking for help can be a little daunting if you aren't feeling yourself, but it's a relatively simple process. This step-by-step guide will give you a brief overview of the process and what to expect from DAPL, so you don't feel overwhelmed by the unknown.

Send your details

You will be asked to fill in a referral form on this website. We will then assess the submission and add you to a waiting list.

You can refer yourself, a friend with their consent, or for school aged young people, you could ask a parent, carer or teacher to do it for you.

We get in touch

DAPL will contact you to arrange your counselling sessions at a suitable location with one of our qualified practitioners.

Most clients who access our counselling service have weekly sessions lasting for a duration up to fifty minutes. This is called the therapeutic hour.

We get to know you

You will be assigned and introduced to a qualified DAPL counsellor at a location that's convenient for you.

For adult access we have premises in Leven and Kirkcaldy which are operational throughout the week, and from premises throughout Fife.

Appointments for school aged young people usually take place in the school they attend.

We work through it

We will review your progress with you throughout your counselling sessions.

Outcomes for adults and young people who engage in the counselling process are excellent, with most clients reporting an improvement in psychological health and well being, in addition to a reduction in harmful behaviours.
